RC Soldering: Connectors, Wires, and Staying Safe

A good solder joint is clean, shiny, and electrically perfect. A bad one is "cold," dull, gray, and will eventually vibrate loose, causing your car to twitch or your drone to fall from the sky. 1. The Soldering Arsenal: What You Need
You cannot get professional results with a $15 soldering iron from the big box store. For RC wiring (especially thick LiPo wires), you need serious heat.

Tinning (Pre-Soldering) is Critical
You must "tin" (apply a thin layer of solder to) both the wire and the connector before you try to join them. This makes the final connection happen instantly with minimal heat.
Heat the Joint, Not the Solder
The most common mistake is touching the solder directly to the iron tip. This burns off the flux and creates a weak, "cold" joint.
